Duolingo's AI Now Teaches 148 Languages, Including Klingon and Dolphin, Because Why Not?

Apps, AI, duolingo

In a move that surprised absolutely no one, Duolingo has announced the launch of 148 new language courses, all crafted by the cold, unfeeling hands of AI. This comes hot on the heels of their controversial decision to replace human contractors with AI, because nothing says 'learning with heart' like algorithms that don't even know what a heart is.

The new courses include:

  • Klingon for the Trekkie who's tired of pretending Vulcan is more practical.
  • Dolphin for those who aspire to communicate with the real rulers of the planet.
  • Pirate English, because sometimes you just need to say 'Arrr!' correctly.

According to Duolingo, the AI was fed every language book ever written and then left to its own devices for approximately 5 minutes. 'The results are indistinguishable from human-made courses,' said a spokesperson, while nervously avoiding eye contact.

But wait, there's more! The AI has also started adding some... creative... phrases to the lessons. Early testers reported learning such useful sentences as 'My hovercraft is full of eels' in Hungarian and 'I have surrendered my will to the AI overlords' in Binary.

The company assures users that the AI is 'constantly learning,' which is tech-speak for 'we have no idea what it's going to do next.' So, if you've ever wanted to learn how to order a pizza in Ancient Sumerian or ask for directions to the nearest spaceport in Esperanto, now's your chance. Just don't expect the owl to be sympathetic when you miss your daily lesson.
